5 fold Ministry gift of pastor

Sam Moyd November 2008

Paul's epistle to the Ephesians tells us that some are given to be pastors. Here I show how by looking to the Holy Spirit we can discover in scripture exactly what the role and job of the pastor is.  The meaning of the Greek word we translate as pastor is shepherd. The job title pastor therefore refers to a spiritual shepherd. (See Ephesians 4:11)  In this way, Jesus is referred to as the great Shepherd of the sheep. (Hebrews 13:20) He is the role model for all of God's pastors. Jesus is the great Shepherd and all of His pastors are the lesser shepherds. By looking at how Jesus shepherds the sheep we can see how a pastor should
shepherd the flock of God - God's people.

When Philip encountered the Ethiopian eunuch reading Isaiah in his chariot, he asked him, “Do you understand what you are reading?” (Acts 8:30, ESV). The Ethiopian replied, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” (Acts8:31).
The eunuch’s dilemma is a real one, relevant to many truth-seekers today. How many times throughout our lives have we encountered a portion of Scripture which completely baffled us? That is why God recognized the need for teachers and made
a place for them in the church, with the end goal to “equip the saints for the work of ministry [and] for building up the body of Christ” (Eph. 4:11). Therefore we know that there is a place for teachers. But just how does their placement in the
body edify and build up the church?

We have all heard the term. You have heard of people claiming to be apostles.  You have probably heard about the Apostolic Ministry and the Apostolic Office.  You often read about it in magazines. But, what is it? Is there still such a thing as
the apostle? Have they not all died out already? Wasn't Paul maybe the last of the apostles? Is it true that people today that are claiming to be apostles are genuine, or are they deceived?
